ISTE Standards
Technology is rapidly and dramatically changing our world. For
students today, knowing how to use technology is an essential skill. Implementing
technology is important for every teacher worldwide. ISTE standards give the
teacher much needed guidelines for technology implementation. These standards are
creating a revolution in classrooms globally.
The ISTE standards are organized into five different categories.
There are standards for students, teachers, coaches, CS educators and education
leaders. There is a total of twenty-nine standards which fall under these five
categories. Students learn to use
technology for many purposes. They communicate safely with the online world and
connect with other students. They develop skills to become innovative and creative
adults. Students learn how they can contribute to our fast – paced world by
constructing knowledge and problem-solving skills. The educator standards guide
the teachers in how to develop their students use of technology.
To date there are two versions of the ISTE standards. The previous
generation standards and the newest generation standards. These standards have
been implemented in many different states across the country. If they have not
been implemented in the school you work in, be the first to introduce these
important standards into your classroom!
The beauty of the five - tiered approach to the ISTE
standards is the across the board continuity. There are standards for all
levels of educators to follow to ensure that the student standards are met. In
this way the classroom learning and instruction is focused on the goal of the
standards. It also guides coaches and different education leaders.
I think that ISTE standards are very important. Students need
to learn how to use many different types of technology properly. It is
important for them to be knowledgeable about the different online platforms and
other resources. They need to be able to present ideas through PowerPoint or
other platforms. They need to learn how to harness the power of the internet. There
internet is full of useful and powerful tools. Students need to learn how to
use these tools properly and efficiently and the ISTE standards provide the
guidelines to help them succeed.
Excellent reflection. :)
